Before our trip, Andy found out about The Benjamin Franklin House in London. It is apparently the only surviving house in the world that Benjamin Franklin lived in that is still standing. They have set up a little museum and a kind of dramatic play to illustrate his life while he stayed there. It was very different from the usual touristy visits, and it was educational. I didn’t hear any complaints from the boys about it, so it must have captured their attention. They chose to get a copy of Poor Richard’s Almanac as a souvenir from the museum and spent the rest of the trip reciting and inventing smart sayings, such as “Three can keep a secret, if two of them are dead,” and “He who talks too much spills water on his bed.” Great.
I would recommend a visit to The Benjamin Franklin House for anyone who is a fan of him, or American history. It was very well done, and a great break from the crowds and lines, most definitely a welcome respite.
